Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the AMC announced the baseball and softball Player of the Week awards for the week ending on April 30
th, 2017. For their efforts this past week,
Andrew Warner has been named this week's AMC Baseball Player of the Week and
Allyson Metz was recognized as the AMC Softball Player of the Week. This is the fourth time this season that
Andrew Warner has claimed the award and the second time for Metz.
Warner, a 6-2 junior catcher and first baseman from Lees Summit, Missouri, hit .583 for the Cougars as they grabbed a piece of the AMC regular season crown in their first season of competition since 1982. Warner had a double, a triple, and a homer among his seven hits in the four AMC wins the Cougars posted during the week, and he also drew three walks, drove in four runs, and scored five times. Warner leads the AMC in both batting average and RBIs.
Metz, a 5-7 junior infielder from Jefferson City, Missouri, helped the Cougars take a sweep in their AMC Quarterfinal series against Lyon College in convincing fashion. Metz was 4-for-6 in the double-header, and she belted three extra base hits, including two homers. She scored twice in game one and had six RBIs as she accounted for all six runs the Cougars scored in the contest. She is now hitting .400 for the season, and she has 53 RBIs.
The baseball and softball teams are back in action this week when they travel to Henderson, Tennessee, to compete in the AMC Championships at Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University. The baseball team will play their first game of the double elimination tournament on Wednesday, May 3
rd at 1 p.m. and the softball team will play on Thursday, May 4
th at 10 a.m.
