Henderson, Tenn. – The fifth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action today when they traveled to Henderson, Tennessee, to take on the Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University Lions in an AMC matchup. The Cougars, who defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville (ill.) in their first conference game of the season, were able to improve to 2-0 in conference play with a 4-0 victory over the Lions. With the win, Columbia improves to 7-0 on the season.
The Cougars came out in the first half and dominated the Lions from the opening whistle. It took them just three minutes to get on the board as Laurie Frew was able to finish off a pass from Kelsey Mirts for her eighth goal of the season. Frew was able to add two more goals for the Cougars in the first half and Columbia took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Cougars continued to play well in the second half and controlled the tempo early. They created several scoring opportunities throughout the half and were able to add one final goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game when Kelsey Mirts finished off her seventh goal of the season to solidify the 4-0 victory
Madison Boyken was in goal for the Cougars making one save in her first solo shutout of the season.
Columbia College is back in action on Wednesday, September 20th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
