Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Hannibal, Missouri to take on Hannibal LaGrange (Mo.) University in the AMC Game of the Week. Columbia was able to snag their first ranking of the season today as they came in at 23rd in the fourth regular season poll. The Cougars stretched their winning streak to seven straight games after defeating the Trojans by a final score of 1-0. Columbia improved to 8-2 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.
The match was very physical right from the start. The Cougars outshot the Trojans 10-3 in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net ending the half 0-0.
The second half started out much like the first, an intense battle with each team fighting to get on the board. Pere Adrian Servera put an end to the scoreless battle with a snipe from 40 yards out to put the Cougars up 1-0 with 29 minutes to go in the game. The blast from Servera was enough to keep Columbia on top as they ended the game 1-0.
Nicolau Neto was in goal for Columbia this afternoon as he recorded five saves in his fifth shutout of the season.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, September 30th when they host the Williams Baptist College (Ark.) Eagles in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 2:30 p.m. at R. Marvin Owen's Field.
