Cougars Win Eighth Straight

Columbia, Mo. – The 23rd ranked Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they hosted the Williams Baptist (Ark.) College Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Cougars extended their winning streak to eight straight games after defeating the Eagles by a final score of 3-1. With the win, Columbia improved to 9-2 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

Less than a minute into the game Michael Mayberry found the back of the net to put the Cougars up 1-0 right from the start. Midway through the half, the Eagles had a few close shots almost tying Columbia, but the Cougars defense was able to hold them off as the half progressed. The score remained close throughout most of the first half but with just over a minute to play Juan Pablo Agredo was able to finish off his first goal of the season to put Columbia up 2-0 late in the period.  

Juan Pablo Agredo picked up right where he left off, heading in a great cross from Matheus Lima giving Columbia a 3-0 lead early in the second half. Sebastian Machado was able to put the Eagles on the board scoring off a free kick just outside the box cutting the score 3-1 with 30 minutes to go in the match but the Cougars were able to hold off Williams Baptist down the stretch to notch their eighth straight win.  

Nicolau Neto was in goal for Columbia this afternoon as he recording one save in the match.

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, October 7th when they host Midland (Neb.) University on Homecoming Day. The game is set to start at 4:00 p.m. on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
