Hannibal, Mo. – This afternoon the fifth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Hannibal, Missouri, to take on Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University in an AMC match. The Cougars, who remained fifth in the latest poll after improving to 9-0 on the season, were able to stay undefeated on the year as they improved to 10-0 for the first time in program history with an 8-0 victory over the Trojans.
Columbia College came out in the first half of the match and dominated the Trojans from the opening whistle. It took them just two and half minutes to find the back of the net as Sarah Taylor and Laurie Frew set up Emma Laney for her first goal of the season to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Columbia College continued to play well as the half progressed and were able to add four more goals to their total before the halftime break including a second goal from Laney and goals from Laurie Frew, Kelsey Mirts, and Molly Klein to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead.
In the second half of the match, Columbia College controlled the tempo early. They were able to take a 6-0 lead 19 minutes into the period when Laurie Frew knocked in her second goal of the game, and 13th of the season, on a pass from Emma Laney. Caramia Fiedler and Kelsey Mirts finished off the scoring for the Cougars as Fielder scored her first goal of the season and Mirts her 11th of the season to solidify Columbia's 8-0 victory.
Madison Boyken and Erin Jones split time in goal for the Cougars as the two combined for their eighth shutout of the season.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, September 30th when they play host to the Williams Baptist (Ark.) College Eagles in an AMC matchup. The game is set to kick off at noon on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
