Columbia, Mo. – The fifth ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action this afternoon when they hosted the Williams Baptist (Ark.) College Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Cougars remained undefeated beating the Eagles by a final score of 6-0 to improve to 11-0 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.
The Cougars did not waste any time in the first half as Laurie Frew scored just one minute into the match putting Columbia up 1-0. Laurie Frew struck again on an assist from Kelsey Mirts to put the Cougars up 2-0 early in the game. Columbia quickly went up 3-0 after Laurie Frew grabbed her second hat trick of the season. Kelsey Mirts put the Cougars up 4-0 midway through the first half and an own goal from the Eagles gave Columbia a 5-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Cougars came out in the second half dominating on the offensive end. Kelsey Mirts put Columbia up 6-0 midway through the half after touching the ball past the Williams Baptist keeper and into the back of the net. The Eagles did their best to battle back, but were unable to overcome the Cougars as Columbia cruised to their 11th straight win.
Erin Jones was in goal for the Cougars this afternoon as she recorded her first solo shutout.
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday, October 4th when they host Stephens College (Mo.) in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. on R. Marvin Owen's Field.
