Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action tonight when they played host to the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in an AMC matchup. The Cougars were able to defeat the Spartans by a final score of 2-1 to improve to 8-4-1 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.
It did not take long for Columbia College to get on the board in this one as they earned a corner kick in the first five minutes of the game. Adam Du Toit took the corner for the Cougars and found Joey Koetting in the box who was able to get his head on the ball and knock it past the Spartans keeper for his third goal of the season to give the Cougars 1-0 lead in the game. Columbia College was back at it again just 11 minutes later when Caden Castello put a long throw in into the middle of the box. Parker Moon was there waiting and was able to get a foot on it for his fifth goal of the season to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Missouri Baptist did their best to get back into the game but Columbia's backline played tough defensively and the score remained 2-0 heading into the halftime break. The Spartans outshot Columbia 3-2 in the period.
Both sides came out in the second half and exchanged scoring chances early. Missouri Baptist was able to get on the board just five minutes into the half when they took advantage of a free kick just outside the Cougars box to cut the lead to 2-1. They continued to push the tempo as the half progressed but Columbia College stood the test on the defensive end of the field as they closed out the game down the stretch to stay unbeaten in AMC play.
Ryan Harrisskitt (6-1-1) was in goal tonight for the Cougars making two saves in the contest.
The men's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday, October 17th when they travel to Parkville, Missouri, to take on the Park (Mo.) University Pirates in an AMC matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
