Columbia Tops Lynx 2-0

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the 19th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Belleville, Illinois to take on the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx in an AMC contest. The team picked up their fifth straight win as they defeated the Lynx by a final score of 2-0 to improve to 9-3 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.

This afternoon the NAIA national office announced the sixth regular season Women's Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Cougars remained at 19th in the polls after securing a 5-0 win over the Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) Lions.

The Cougars took the field tonight, ready to go. Columbia then struck first as Molly Klein hit the net at 17:38 off an assist from Abby Meyer to go up 1-0 over the Lynx. As the half progressed, each team continued to battle, but neither was able to add to the board. Heading into halftime, Columbia led 1-0. The Cougars had four shots with three on goal, while LU-B had seven shots with two on goal. Each goalie tallied two saves in the first half.

As the second half began, the Lynx were looking to find a way to tie it up with the Cougars, but the score remained 1-0 as the match continued. The Columbia defense held up as they kept the Lynx off the board. At the 76:50 mark Chloe Hall found the net giving the Cougars a 2-0 cushion. With the 2-0 cushion, Columbia was able to solidify the 2-0 win over the Lynx.

Kate Marshall and Erin Jones split time in goal today for Columbia as the two combined for the team's ninth shutout of the season.

The women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, October 13th when they host the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in an AMC matchup. The match will kickoff at 5 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
