Columbia Defeats Lynx 67-53

Belleville, Ill. – The fourth ranked Columbia College women's basketball team traveled to Belleville, Illinois this afternoon as they faced the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx in an AMC matchup. Columbia defeated the Lynx 67-53. The Cougars improve to 8-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

As the game began, it was tied at 6 early while each team was settling in. The Cougars were able to grab some first quarter space, taking a 17-10 lead with about three and a half to go. The Lynx went on a quick run cutting the score 19-14 and calling a timeout with 1:32 in the first. After one, Columbia was on top 19-16. During the first quarter, Ashlee Marlatt knocked down her 210th career three-pointer to take over third place all-time at Columbia College. The Cougars regained some ground taking a 25-18 lead in the second, but a few quick Lynx buckets cut the lead to three and forced a Columbia timeout. As the second quarter continued Columbia maintained the lead 34-27 as the half was winding down. The score would remain 34-27 at the break, while the Cougars were shooting 42 percent from the field. Marlatt led all scorers with 11 in the half.  

Four minutes into the third, Columbia led 41-29, as they held the Lynx to just one bucket in the quarter so far. The Cougars run continued as they were able to create a comfortable distance with a 50-31 advantage as the Lynx called timeout with just under two left in the third. The Lynx, able to hit some shots in the later end of the quarter, trailed by 13 going into the fourth. The Lynx were not fading away just yet, as they were chipping their way back in, with the score 52-44, 5:50 to play. With just over two minutes left in the game, Columbia held a 60-49 lead, while the Lynx called time in need of a late surge. The Lynx put up a fight, but Columbia was able to hold on to win 67-53. The Cougars finished shooting 43 percent from the field, 36 from three, and 76 from the line.

Raegan Wieser (16) and Ashlee Marlatt (15) were both in double figures, while Morgan Brandt grabbed nine rebounds to move into second place all-time on the career rebounds list with 792. In addition, Alexis Uffmann handed out three assists and now sits one assist away from 200 for her career.

The women's basketball team will travel to Kirksville, Missouri on Wednesday, December 5th to take on the Truman State University Bulldogs in an exhibition matchup. The game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
