Sioux City, Iowa - The Columbia College women's bowling team was back in action over the weekend when they traveled to Sioux City, Iowa to compete in the Mustang Invitational hosted by Morningside College.
Saturday's competition was comprised of six team games played on a challenging 41-foot sport compliant oil pattern. The Cougars got off to a slow start through their first three team games, not breaking 800. However, they rallied the final three games shooting over 800 each game and finishing with a total of 4,799, putting them in fourth place at the end of Saturday's competition.
Sunday's competition included 16 Baker style games broken into four different four-game blocks. The Cougars got out of the gate quickly on Sunday with a four game block of 702 and followed that up with a score of 647. With eight baker games to go the Cougars had climbed into third place. They ran into trouble their third Baker set bowling a 606 and finished out their tournament with a 190 game to bring their total to 612. The Cougars knocked down 2,567 pins on Sunday, bringing their tournament total to 7,366 which nabbed them fourth place.
In another first for the Columbia bowling program, Freshman
Katyn Fischer ended up in fifth place individually after Saturday's competition, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Fischer knocked down 1,077 pins in her six games for a tournament average of 179.5.
"We had a good first day on a demanding oil pattern," said head coach
Don Cope. "We also had a first with
Katyn Fischer making the all-tournament team. I am very proud of our ladies for another top five finish."
This was the last tournament for the fall semester. The Cougars will travel to St. Joseph, Missouri to compete in the Griffon Invitational on January 12 and 13.
