Cougar Lacrosse Falls to Warriors

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College men's lacrosse team was back in action as they faced off against the fourth ranked Indiana Tech University Warriors. The Cougars fell to the Warriors by a final score of 15-6. Columbia moves to 2-1 on the season.

Columbia was able to strike first as Jeremiah Lerch bounced a rocket passed the Warrior goalie to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the first quarter. With 2:06 to go in the quarter, the Warriors would get on the board tying the game 1-1. A minute later the Warriors were able to find some open space in the Cougar zone as they would take the lead 2-1 to end the first.

The Warriors momentum carried over to the second quarter as they took a 3-1 lead right away. With 11 minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Cougars trailed 4-1. Looking to steal some momentum, Sam Crum hit the back of the net off of a spin move to cut the lead to two, 4-2 with under 10 to go before the break. The Warriors answered right back taking a 5-2 lead. Lerch would grab his second goal of the game off of a canon to cut the lead back to two. Again the Warriors with the quick answer as they took a three goal lead with five and a half minutes to play in the half. Less than 30 seconds later, Columbia displayed some great field vision as Cooper Heck connected with Crum to make the score 6-4 Warriors. Another great set up led Crum to his third goal of the afternoon and cut the lead to one, however the Warriors jumped right back to a two goal lead, 7-5. With a last second goal, Indiana Tech would take an 8-5 lead heading into halftime.

The Warriors extended their lead 10-5 starting the third quarter. The Cougars were struggling to stop the Warriors as they led 12-5 with under four to go in the third. Crum would snag his fourth goal of the day as the Cougars trailed 6-13 heading into the final quarter. The Cougars continued to fight, but would fall to the Warriors 15-6.
