Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the sixth ranked Columbia College softball team was back in action when they took on Stephens (Mo.) College in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars were able to take both games of the doubleheader to improve to 9-4 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
In the first game against the Stars, Columbia College was able to put together 11 hits in a 10-0 victory. The Cougars offense was rolling in this one as they scored two runs in the first, five runs in the second, one run in the third, and two runs in the fourth to solidify their third conference win of the season. The Cougars had a team batting average of .407 in the contest.
Kaitlyn Nottelmann (2-1) was the starting pitcher in this one as she allowed just one walk while striking out three batters in her first complete game no hitter of her career. Offensively, Natalie Dummitt led the way for the Cougars as she went 3-3 with three RBI's and three runs scored. In addition to Dummitt, Rachel Sullivan went 3-3 with two runs scores, Molly Carter went 1-4 with two RBI's, and Alexandra Linck went 2-3 with two RBI's.
In the second game against the Stars, the Cougars were able to put together 24 hits in a 23-0 win. Columbia College scored four runs in the first, three runs in the second, three runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, and 10 runs in the fifth to solidify the two game sweep over the Stars. The Cougars had a team batting average of .571 in the game.
Lexi Dickerson (2-2) was in the circle for this one as she allowed just one hit while striking out five batters in her first complete game shutout of the season. Offensively, Rachel Sullivan led the way as she went 4-5 with four RBI's and two runs scored. To go along with Sullivan, Dakota Newton went 1-3 with an RBI, Molly Carter went 4-5 with five RBI's, Karli Leeper went 4-5 with three RBI's, Libby Marko with 1-3 with two RBI's, and Emerson Yakle went 1-3 with three RBI's to round out the top performers for Columbia.
The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, March 17th when they play host to the Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) University Hornets in an AMC doubleheader. The first game is set to start at noon with the second to follow at the Antimi Softball Complex.
