Cougars Drop Doubleheader to Vanguard

Costa Mesa, Calif. –The eighth ranked Columbia College softball team was back in action when they traveled to Costa Mesa, California to take on the fifth ranked Vanguard University Lions in a doubleheader. The Cougars fell in the first game by a score of 5-2 and the second game by a final score of 2-0 to move to 11-8 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

In the first game, the Cougars took the 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Lions would quickly tie the game at two at the end of the second. The Lions went on to take a 4-2 lead after three innings. Columbia tried to battle back but would fall 5-2 to the Lions in the first game.

Molly Carter was on the mound as she gave up 10 hits and five earned runs while striking out one batter in six innings of work. Offensively, Carter went 1-3 with one run scored, Alexandra Linck was 1-3 with one RBI, Natalie Dummitt went 2-3 with one run scored, and Julianna Waldner also tallied one RBI.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lions would take a 1-0 lead after the first inning. The Cougars had a hard time getting anything going as the game progressed. The Lions would score one more run in the sixth as they secured a 2-0 win over Columbia in game two.

Lexi Dickerson was in the circle as she allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out two batters in six innings of play. Offensively, Natalie Dummitt went 2-3 and Molly Carter, Alexandra Linck, and Olivia Denslow each went 1-3.

The Cougars are back in action tomorrow, March 29th when they travel to San Diego, California to take on San Diego Christian University in a doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 2:00 p.m. with the second game to follow.
