Cougars Sweep the Hawks

San Diego, Calif. –The eighth ranked Columbia College softball team was back in action when they traveled to San Diego, California to take on the San Diego Christian College Hawks in a doubleheader. The Cougars won the first game by a score of 16-3 and the second game by a final score of 17-0 to improve to 13-8 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.

In the first game, the Hawks struck first as they took a 3-0 lead after the third inning. The Cougars came storming back in the fourth as a two run homerun from Allyson Metz got the Cougars rolling and they scored 8 runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead 8-3. Columbia was able to score another eight runs in the sixth as they held the Hawks scoreless over the final three innings to secure a 16-3 win in game one.

Kaitlyn Nottelmann was the winning pitcher as she allowed five hits and three earned runs, while striking out seven batters. Offensively, Rachel Sullivan went 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's, Dakota Newton was 1-2 with one run scored and two RBI's, Molly Carter had two runs scored and two RBI's, Alexandra Linck went 2-3 with two runs scored, Allyson Metz was 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's, Allison Keen was 1-1 with two RBI's, Karli Leeper went 2-3 with two runs scored, Emerson Yakle was 1-1 with one RBI, Natalie Dummitt went 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's, Olivia Denslow also had two RBI's, and Julianna Waldner went 2-3 with two runs scored.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars momentum carried on over as they put up four runs in the first, two in the second, four in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the fifth to lock in a dominating 17-0 win over the Hawks.

Reagen Radke was the winning pitcher as she allowed just six hits, zero runs, and struck out two batters in her five innings of work. Molly Carter went 3-3 including a two run and three run homerun, along with three runs scored and eight RBI's. In addition, Sullivan went 1-2 with one run scored, Libby Marko was 2-3 with three runs scored, Newton and Samantha Myers each went 1-1 with two runs scored, Linck was 1-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Metz went 3-5 with two runs scored, Leeper went 2-4 with one run scored, Dummitt was 4-4 with four RBI's, and Waldner went 1-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

The Cougars are back in action Tuesday, April 3rd when they host William Woods University in an AMC doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 2:00 p.m. with the second game to follow.
