Box Score

Gulf Shores, Ala. – Today the second ranked Columbia College softball team was back on the field when they continued play in the 2018 Gulf Coast Invitational. The Cougars defeated the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) 4-0 and then fell to the Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) Blue Raiders by a final score of 3-1 to finish 1-1 on the day. Columbia moves to 5-4 on the season.

In the Cougars first game, neither team could get much going through the first few innings. Molly Carter was the winning pitcher as she struck out six batters, allowing just five hits in seven innings of play.

In Columbia's second game the Blue Raiders took the early 2-0 lead over the Cougars. However, Columbia quickly cut the lead in half off of a homerun from Karli Leeper as they trailed 2-1 after two innings. Lindsey Wilson would add another run to their lead in the fourth inning making it 3-1. The Cougars would not be able to overcome the Blue Raiders as they fell 3-1 in their final game of the day. Karli Leeper went 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Kaitlyn Nottelmann was on the mound as she struck out two batters, allowed only six hits and one earned run in seven innings of work.

The Cougars are back in action Saturday, March 10th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC doubleheader. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 2 p.m. with the second game to follow.
