Cougars Defeat Trojans on Senior Day

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College baseball team was back in action when they played host to the Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) University Trojans in the final game of the three game series. The Cougars, who swept the doubleheader against the Trojans on Thursday, were able to pick up where they left off as they defeated Hannibal-LaGrange by a final score of 10-0 to improve to 28-11 on the season and 15-8 in the AMC.

This game served as senior day for the Cougars and before the game 10 seniors were honored for their hard work and dedication to the program. Seniors Cody Ebert, Craig Smith, Tim Fox, Jeremy Rettig, J.W. McGraw, Andrew Warner, Dakota Stone, Alex Del Rio, Reed Sprinkle, and Tanner Allen were all recognized.

The Cougars were able to put together 12 hits this afternoon in the 10-0 win. They got off to a great start in the game as they were able to score two runs in the first and three runs in the second to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. They continued to put the ball in play as the game progressed and rallied for four more runs the bottom of the sixth and one run in the bottom of the seventh to complete the three game sweep over the Trojans.

Cody Ebert (5-2) was on the mound for this one as the senior allowed just two hits while striking out three in 6.0 scoreless innings of work. Jacob Venneman (0-0) came in to relieve Ebert in the seventh and was able to strike out two of the three batters he faced in the final inning of the game. Offensively, Jordan Wright went 3-4 with a two run homerun and four runs scored, Andrew Warner went 1-2 with a two run homerun and two runs scored, Reed Sprinkle went 2-2 with two RBI's, Alex Del Rio went 2-4 with two RBI's, and Ethan Howser went 1-3 with two RBI's to round out the top performers for Columbia.

The baseball team is back in action on Tuesday, April 17th when they play host to the Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College Wildcats in the Cougars final home game of the season. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Atkins Park.
