Box Score 2 Batesville, Ark. –The eighth ranked Columbia College softball team was back in action when they traveled to Batesville, Arkansas to face the Central Baptist College Mustangs in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars won the first game by a score of 4-3 and the second game by a final score of 8-5 to improve to 16-8 on the season and 8-0 in conference play.
In the first game, the Mustangs held a 2-0 lead after four innings as the Cougars were still trying to get things going offensively. Heading into the seventh inning, the Cougars were trailing 3-0, however they were able to rally back and tie the game at three to force an eighth inning. Columbia held the Mustangs scoreless in the top of the eighth and then in the bottom of the inning, Rachel Sullivan hit one through the hole to allow Karli Leeper to score the winning run. The Cougars won game one by a final score of 4-3.
Molly Carter started on the mound as she only allowed one hit in her one inning of play. Kaitlyn Nottelmann and Lexi Dickerson both came in to combine for six hits allowed, three earned runs, and eight strike outs. Offensively, Rachel Sullivan went 3-5 with one run scored and the game winning RBI, Allison Keen was 1-1 with one RBI, Dakota Newton was 1-4 with one run scored and two RBI's, Julianna Waldner was 1-3 with one run scored while Olivia Denslow went 3-4 and Natalie Dummitt went 2-4.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars carried over their late game energy as they took the quick 1-0 lead after the first. They picked up another run in the third to lead 2-0. The Mustangs rallied off three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead, however Columbia grabbed six runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead back 8-3. In the top of the sixth the Mustangs scored two more runs to cut the lead 8-5, but the Cougars were able to hold them off in the final inning to win 8-5.
Lexi Dickerson was the winning pitcher as she allowed six hits, one earned run, and struck out two batters in four innings of play. Reagen Radke and Kaitlyn Nottelmann came in to combine for just four hits, two earned runs, and five strike outs. Offensively, Sullivan went 1-3 with two runs scored, Newton was 1-2 with one run scored and two RBI's, Dummitt went 1-2 with one run scored, Denslow was 2-3 with one run scored, Waldner went 1-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Linck, Metz, and Leeper each had one RBI apiece as well.
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow, April 8th when they take on Lyon College (Ark.) in an AMC doubleheader Game of the Week in Batesville. The first game of the doubleheader is set to start at 12:00 p.m. with the second game to follow.
