Cougar Softball Advances in AMC Conference Tournament

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College softball team was back in action as they are the hosts of the 2018 AMC Conference Tournament. In their first round of the tournament the Cougars beat the Williams Baptist College Eagles by a final score of 3-1 to advance to the next round. The Cougars improve to 26-14 on the year.

Prior to the game many players were recognized with conference awards. For the Cougars, Rachel Sullivan, Molly Carter, and Natalie Dummitt were honored as First Team All-Conference members, while Alexandra Linck and Olivia Denslow were honored as Second Team All-Conference. In addition those who made Academic All-Conference were also recognized for their hard work in the classroom. Emerson Yakle, Molly Carter, Julianna Waldner, Libby Marko, Olivia Denslow, Kayla Bals, Alexandra Linck, Lexi Dickerson, Allison Keen, Rachel Sullivan, Elizabeth Schimpf, Natalie Dummitt, Reagen Radke, Morgan Brandt, Allyson Metz, Kaitlyn Nottelmann, and Samantha Myers were all members of the Academic All-Conference team.

This afternoon the Eagles were able to take a quick 1-0 lead to start the game, however the Cougars would tie it up at one in the bottom of the inning. The game remained tied heading into the bottom of the third. A two run homerun from senior, Alexandra Linck put the Cougars up 3-1. Linck's bomb would prove to be enough as Columbia was able to hold off the Eagles the remainder of the game to secure a 3-1 victory and advance to the next round.

Molly Carter was on the mound today as she only allowed three hits and one earned run in her seven innings of work. Offensively, Rachel Sullivan went 1-3 with one run scored, Dakota Newton went 1-2 with one run scored, and Alexandra Linck was 2-3 with one run scored and three RBI's.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow, May 2nd when they take on the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in the next round of the 2018 AMC Conference Tournament at the Antimi Softball Complex. The game is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
