Clermont, Fla. – The Columbia College softball team was back in action this morning when they took the field in Clermont, Florida for the 38th Annual NAIA Softball World Series. The Cougars defeated the University of Mobile Rams by a final score of 4-1 to improve to 34-14 on the season.
Neither team could get on the board in the first few innings. In the third, the Rams were able to take a 1-0 lead over the Cougars. It did not take long before Columbia tied the game up off of a Molly Carter solo homerun. Heading into the fifth the game was tied 1-1. It was not until the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars were able to grab a lead. They rallied three runs in the bottom of the inning and held the Rams scoreless in the top of the seventh to secure a 4-1 victory.
Lexi Dickerson was the winning pitcher as she allowed five hits, one earned run, and struck out seven batters in her seven innings on the mound. Offensively, Dakota Newton went 1-2 with one run scored, Molly Carter went 1-3 with one run scored and one RBI, Allyson Metz was 1-3 with one run scored, Olivia Denslow went 1-3 with one RBI, Natalie Dummitt went 1-3, and Karli Leeper went 1-2 with one RBI.
The softball team is back in action when they take on the number two Oklahoma City University Stars tomorrow, May 26th at 2:30 p.m. CST in Clermont, Florida.
