Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Columbia Defeats Jimmies 1-0

Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the 10th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team played host to the University of Jamestown Jimmies in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars defeated the Jimmies by a final score of 1-0 to improve to 1-1 on the season.

To start the match off the Jimmies seemed to hold more control as both teams were still trying to settle in. The game proved to be aggressive from the kickoff, but midway through the first half neither team had been able to find the net yet. Columbia had begun to gain more control as the half progressed, but were still in search of their first goal of the season. With under 15 minutes remaining in the half, the game remained scoreless. Heading into halftime, neither team was able to poke one in as the score remained 0-0. Columbia outshot the Jimmies 3-1 in the half.

In the second half the Cougars continued to protect their goal as goalie, Kate Marshall, came up with a big save off of a Jimmie corner kick to keep them off the board. With 28 minutes to go, Columbia continued to battle, but was still unable to capitalize. A little over 20 minutes to go and the Jimmies really began to apply some pressure on the Cougars, but Columbia's defense stood strong. Marshall would come up with a huge sliding save just before the game was delayed due to weather conditions. The game was delayed with 22:22 on the clock. As the weather moved out, the game was able to resume play. It was not until the 10:25 mark that Molly Klein's corner kick was able to connect with Kelsey Mirts as she headed it in to give the Cougars their first goal of the season as well as the lead over the Jimmies. The Jimmies did not back down, but Mirts' headball proved to be enough to overcome the University of Jamestown and solidify Columbia's first victory of the season.

Kate Marshall made her first start in goal for the Cougars picking up four saves in the contest.

The women's soccer team is back in action on Monday, September 3rd when they travel to Pulaski, Tennessee to face the Martin Methodist College Redhawks in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
