Box Score Pulaski, Tenn. – This afternoon the 10th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Pulaski, Tennessee, to take on the fifth ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College RedHawks in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars, who picked up their first win of the season on Friday with a 1-0 win over the University of Jamestown, fell to 1-2 on the season after falling to the RedHawks by a final score of 3-1.
The Cougars came out in the first half and tested the Martin Methodist keeper early forcing her to make a save in the first two minutes of the game. The RedHawks settled in over the next few minutes and controlled the possession for most of the half. They were able to score the first goal of the game with just over seven minutes to play in the period and took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. The Cougars were outshot 9-2 in the half.
In the second half of the game, Martin Methodist was able to extend their lead to 2-0 just five minutes into the period. However, the Cougars battled back and were able to cut the score to 2-1 just a minute later when Molly Klein found Abby Meyer in the box for her first tally of the season. The Cougars did their best to find an equalizer as the half progressed but a third goal from the RedHawks with just under 12 minutes to play in the game solidified the win for Martin Methodist.
Kate Marshall was in goal today for the Cougars recording nine saves in the contest.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, September 8th when they travel to Marshall, Missouri, to take on the Missouri Valley College Vikings in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
