Box Score Columbia, Mo. – This evening the 16th ranked Columbia College men's soccer team took the field for an AMC conference matchup against the Central Baptist (Ark.) College Mustangs. Columbia defeated the Mustangs 2-0 as they improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Prior to the game the NAIA national office announced the second regular-season NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll of the 2018 season. After defeating defending National Champion Wayland Baptist (Texas) University 2-1, the Cougars went from 20th to 16th in the recent poll.
The Cougars came out firing as they blasted one off the cross bar less than a minute into play. After 15 minutes of play the game was scoreless, but Columbia was holding the early momentum. With 15 minutes left in the half, the Cougars were still controlling most of the possession, yet were unable to capitalize on a few shot opportunities. Just over 12 minutes to go before the break Ximo Gill, battling through some traffic, was able to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead. Columbia was able to keep the Mustangs off the board after one half of play. The Cougars outshot the Mustangs 9-0 in the half.
In the second half, the Cougar defense continued to stand strong holding the Mustangs to zero shots with 25 minutes left in the match. With speed on the dribble, Parker Moon gave Columbia some breathing room as he nailed the back of the net giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead. With 10 minutes left in the match, CBC continued to battle, looking for a late come back. Columbia held off the Mustangs down the stretch and secured the 2-0 shutout.
Ryan Harrisskitt was in goal for Columbia College picking up the shutout.
The men's soccer team is back in action on Friday, September 14th when they travel to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to face the Williams Baptist College Eagles in an AMC conference matchup. The game is set to start at 12 p.m.
