Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

16th Ranked Cougars Outlast Eagles in Overtime

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – This afternoon the 16th ranked Columbia College men's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to take on the Williams Baptist (Ark.) College Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Cougars, who picked up their first conference win of the season on Tuesday against Central Baptist (Ark.) College, were able to improve to 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in AMC play with a 1-0 overtime win over the Eagles.

Columbia College came out in the first half and controlled the possession early in the contest. They were able to create several scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of the game but were unable to capitalize. The Eagles settled in as the half progressed and were able to earn five corner kicks in the period but the Cougars played well defensively and the score remained 0-0 heading into the halftime break. The Cougars and the Eagles both finished with five shots in the half but Williams Baptist put three shots on target compared to just two from Columbia.

The Cougars came out in the second half and controlled the possession for most of the period. They held the ball in the Eagles end of the field for most of the half but could not finish off their chances. Williams Baptist countered on a few of the Cougars attacks and came the closest to scoring when they put a shot off the post with just over seven minutes to play. However, the score remained 0-0 at the end of regulation.

Columbia College continued to control the possession in overtime and were finally able to find the back of the net with just over a minute to play in the first overtime period. Pere Adrian Severa had the goal for the Cougars as he was able to dribble around a defender before tucking the ball past the keeper and into the bottom left corner of the net to solidify Columbia's second conference win of the season.

Ryan Harrisskitt (3-1) was in goal for the Cougars as the junior keeper recorded four saves in his second shutout of the season.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Sunday, September 16th when they travel to Atchison, Kansas, to take on the Benedictine (Kan.) College Ravens in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
