Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the 18th ranked Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action when they traveled to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to face the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an AMC matchup. The Cougars picked up their second straight conference win 4-0. The team improves to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

In the first half Columbia was controlling the field as they created multiple opportunities to score, but were struggling to get passed the WBU goalkeeper. As the half progressed, Columbia's defense was keeping the Eagles off the board. The Cougars struck first with just under 15 minutes to go before the break, when Allison Floyd was able to get a pass to Molly Klein for a one touch shot giving the Cougars the 1-0 advantage. Columbia outshot the Eagles 16 to 2 in the first half.

About 13 minutes into the second half, the Cougars extended their lead as the ball was stolen from the defender and knocked in the net by Klein for her second goal of the game as Columbia led 2-0. Minutes later Kelsey Mirts found Samantha Bassler who put one in cushioning the lead 3-0. The Cougars were cruising as a cross from Bassler found the foot of Maddie Ballard who hit the back of the net for a 4-0 lead with under 20 to play. There was no coming back for the Eagles as a strong second half from the Cougars secured their second conference win.

Kate Marshall was in goal this afternoon as she had one save in the shutout.

The women's soccer team is back in action on Sunday, September 16th when they travel to Atchison, Kansas to take on the Benedictine College Ravens in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
