Columbia, Mo. – The third ranked Columbia College volleyball team was back in action today when they took on the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx in an AMC matchup. The Cougars tallied their eighth straight sweep as they defeated the Lynx (25-12, 25-16, 25-18). The Cougars now improve to 13-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
Prior to the game, the NAIA national office announced the second regular season Women's Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Cougars remained at number three after sweeping their last seven matches since the first regular season poll came out.
The Cougars had a bit of a slow start this evening, but as they continued to settle in they took a 10-4 lead. The Lynx would call a timeout as they trailed 12-5 in set one. Columbia went on to grab a big lead 20-9 late in the first. The Cougars rolled on to win set one 25-12.
With momentum in the Cougars favor after set one, they started off the second with a 9-3 lead. Midway through, the Lynx were looking to chip their way back in as they trailed 15-7, but Columbia continued to cruise locking in a 25-16 win to lead the match 2-0.
The Cougars jumped to a quick 6-2 lead to start the third. The Lynx made a run at the end cutting the score 23-18, but Columbia snatched the final two points to secure their eighth straight sweep with a score of 25-18.
Columbia was led by Caroline Clifford who recorded 15 kills. Kiersten Anderson tallied eight digs, while Manuela Vargas had 34 assists on the night.
The volleyball team is back in action tomorrow, September 19th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to face the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC conference matchup. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
