St. Joseph, Mo. - The Columbia College women's bowling team was back in action over the weekend when they traveled to St. Joseph, Missouri to compete in the Griffon Invitational.
The tournament was scheduled to have six team games on Saturday and baker style games on Sunday, but due to the inclement weather, the decision was made to eliminate the Sunday baker game portion of the competition and add one team game to the competition on Saturday.
Saturday's competition was comprised of seven team games played on the 2018 United States Bowling Congress Open Championship Pattern, a challenging 38 foot sport compliant oil pattern. The Cougars got off to a slow start with two of their first three games under 800 (715, 843, and 764). They dug down and turned it around in games 4-6, rolling scores of 836, 894, and 853. Columbia saved their best for last, firing off a 915 game for their high game of the tournament. The Cougars seven game total of 5,820 earned them a second place finish as Hastings College took the crown.Â
Freshman
Rachel Doran finished in third place individually, earning her a spot on the individual All-Tournament Team. Doran knocked down 1,326 pins in her seven games for a tournament average of 189.4. This is the second consecutive tournament that a Cougar has ended up on the All-Tournament Team.
'After a slow start we finally got our feet under us on a very tough short pattern to secure second place,' said head coach
Don Cope. 'We have things to work on but we are starting to come together and I look for bigger and better things from the women next weekend.'
The Cougars look to continue their hot hand when they travel to Addison, Illinois to compete in the Kegel/ISBPA Tier 1 Tournament on January 19 and 20.
