Columbia, Mo. – The 2
nd ranked Columbia College men's soccer team competed against Lindenwood University-Belleville in an AMC matchup tonight, defeating the Lynx 3-0 and remaining undefeated on the season at 13-0 and 7-0 in conference play.
After 44 scoreless minutes,
Matheus Santos De Albuquerque netted the ball off a pass from
Casey Bartlett-Scott, with just four seconds left on the clock. The Cougars ended the half with four shots and two on goal, while the Lynx had one shot.
The Cougars secured control of the ball early in the second half and at the 54
th minute mark,
Nick Brandt crossed the ball to
Joe Spotanski who found the net for Columbia's second goal. The Cougars extended their lead with a goal from
Aaron Noel, assisted by
Ximo Gil, at the 67
th minute to secure the win.
Ryan Harrisskitt and
Carson Linder split time in goal for Columbia.
Also, today the NAIA National Office announced the sixth regular season Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Cougars held their No. 2 spot for the third straight week and received 483 points. No. 1 Central Methodist received 16-of-18 first place votes, allowing No. 2 Columbia to receive two votes. The top five teams remained the same for the third week in a row.
The Cougars will play next on Saturday, October 19
th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in an AMC contest. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
