Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's soccer team was back in action on R. Marvin Owens Field as they hosted Lindenwood University-Belleville in an AMC matchup. The Cougars came back after a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Lynx 2-1 and improve to 10-3 on the season and 7-0 in conference play.
The Lynx were first to get on the board as they chipped the ball right over the Cougar defense to take the early 1-0 lead at the six minute mark. Columbia acted quickly, breaking down the Lynx defense as
Lucy Kingsley set the ball up perfectly for
Kelsey Mirts to score and tie the game at the 23 minute mark.
At the 78 minute mark of the second half, the ball was about to go out on the end line, but
Brianna Heath made an incredible save as she jumped and headed the ball right to Mirts who then headed the ball into the back of the net for the Cougar victory.
Kate Marshall was the sole goalkeeper for the Cougars and tallied up five saves.
The team will play next on Saturday, October 19
th when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to compete against the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets in an AMC contest. The game will kick off at 1 p.m.
