Second Ranked Cougars Extend Win Streak to 10

Chesterfield, Mo. – Prior to the game, the Columbia College men's soccer team received their highest ranking in program history as they came into the match today ranked number two in the country. The team was on the road today as they traveled to Chesterfield, Missouri to take on the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in the AMC Game of the Week at a neutral site. The Cougars secured the victory 2-0. Columbia extends their winning streak to double digits as they are now 10-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.

The game was showing to be a physical battle as each team was keeping up with each other in the foul column, but neither could find a goal for most of the half as the defenses were holding tight. With just under five minutes to play in the first half, Nick Brandt and Caden Castello worked together to set up Joe Spotanski who executed and hit the back of the net to open up the score for the Cougars, 1-0. With the late goal, Columbia headed into halftime on top. In the first the Cougars had three shots, with one on goal and the Spartans only had one shot with zero on goal.

Early in the second half the Cougars were able to add an insurance goal as the ball was deflected off of a Spartan for a goal in the Cougars favor. Columbia held their 2-0 lead the rest of the way as they limited the Spartans to just four shots and only one being on goal through the entire match.

Ryan Harrisskitt was in goal this morning as he recorded one save in the shutout.

The men will return on Saturday, October 5th when they host the Park University Pirates on Homecoming Day. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
