Columbia, Mo. – The seventh ranked Columbia College volleyball team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri tonight to go up against second ranked Missouri Baptist University in an AMC matchup. The Cougars fell to the Spartans 0-3 (18-25, 22-25, 19-25) to move to 23-3 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.
The Cougars kept it close in the first set until the Spartans had back-to-back aces that led them to a 6-1 run to get away from Columbia. In set two, the Cougars had fallen behind and were down 15-8 when Coach
Allison Jones-Olson called a well-needed timeout that propelled Columbia into an 11-4 run to tie the game at 19. Missouri Baptist bounced back after that by adding two more blocks and two more kills to take set two. The Spartans were quick to take an eight-point lead that they kept throughout the set until the very end when the Cougars went on a 5-2 run, but fell short to the Spartans.
Kiersten Anderson led Columbia tonight with 12 kills. In addition,
Luisa Ferreira had 30 assists, and
Ellie Rockers had 17 digs.
The Cougars will be back on the court on Tuesday, October 29 when they host the Stephens (Mo.) College Stars in an AMC matchup. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Southwell Complex.
