Columbia, Mo. – The 9
th ranked Columbia College volleyball team hosted AMC foe William Woods (Mo.) University tonight in a close matchup right here in Southwell Complex. The Cougars defeated the Owls, 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-15) and are now 16-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
The first set had the Cougars and the Owls evenly matched with the biggest lead being just four points towards the end of the set coming from the Cougars. The second set proved to be the most challenging as the Owls came close tying up the match, but back-to-back kills from
Adianez Rivera gave Columbia the spark they needed to come back and win set two. The Cougars kept their momentum heading into the third set as they added four aces and 12 kills while holding the Owls at just eight kills to claim the victory.
The Cougars were led by Rivera and
Kiersten Anderson who racked up 13 kills apiece. In addition,
Sidney Branson had 12 kills,
Luisa Ferreira dished out 41 assists, and Anderson picked up 10 digs.
Columbia returns to the court on Friday, October 11 when they travel to Henderson, Tennessee to compete against the Freed-Hardeman University Lions in an AMC matchup. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
The Cougars will also be playing this Saturday, October 5 at Noon in the Alumni match for homecoming.
