Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College women's soccer team competed against the Park (Mo.) University Pirates in an AMC matchup. The Cougars defeated the Pirates 3-1 to improve to 8-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
After 34 scoreless minutes, the Cougars were able to get on the board first when
Kelsey Mirts found the back of the net off a corner kick by
Elisa Vega. Columbia held their lead for the remainder of the half.
In the second half it was the Pirates who found the net first. At the 61st minute mark Park's Lenvix Ochieng's goal knotted up the scored at one. Mirts quickly shut down the Pirate attack when her header goal at the 67th minute off the free kick by
Abigail Meyers gave Columbia the 2-1 advantage. At the 87th minute
Jewel Morelan put the game out of reach, catching the Pirate defense on their heels and giving the Cougars the 3-1 win.
Kate Marshall was in goal for the Cougars as she recorded 10 saves.
The team will play next on Saturday, October 12
th when they travel to Conway, Arkansas to take on the Central Baptist (Ark.) University Mustangs in an AMC contest. The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m.
