Cougars Heading to AMC Championship Final After Scoring in Overtime

Columbia, Mo. – The second ranked Columbia College men's soccer team hosted the No. 5 seed Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagles in the American Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Semifinals this afternoon. The Cougars defeated the Eagles in overtime 1-0 to move to 19-0 on the season.

Both the Cougars and the Eagles had a hard time getting things rolling in the first half due to the chilly weather. Columbia had six shots while Williams Baptist had four shots at halftime.

In the 80th minute of the game, Williams Baptist had a free kick right outside the five yard line which did not make it past the Columbia wall. Not long after the Eagles broke away from the Cougars as they had their best scoring opportunity going one-on-one with Cougar keeper Ryan Harrisskitt. Harrisskitt made the kicking save to keep Williams Baptist off the board to force the game into overtime.

Five minutes into the overtime, Parker Moon, one of last season's leading scorers, dribbled his way past a defender, then made his way past the Eagles goalkeeper to find himself going one-on-one with another Eagle defender when he cut the ball to the bottom-left corner to score the game winning goal.

Harrisskitt was in goal this afternoon and recorded five saves on the game.

The Cougars will be back on the field on Friday, November 14 when they host the Lyon (Ark.) College Scots in the AMC Men's Soccer Championship Final at 3 p.m. on R. Marvin Owens Field.
