Cougars Cruise to Victory on Senior Day

Columbia, Mo. – This afternoon the Columbia College women's soccer team took the field on Senior Day as they hosted the Williams Baptist University Eagles in their last regular season AMC matchup. The Cougars cruised to victory today to go undefeated in conference play this season. They finished the regular season with a record of 15-3 and a perfect 12-0 in conference.

Prior to the game, the seniors were recognized for all of their hard work and dedication to the program over the years. Congratulations to a special group of seniors, Elisa Vega, Emma Laney, Molly Klein, Kelsey Mirts, Lucy Kingsley, and Kaitlyn Tambke

The Cougars went right to business as senior Lucy Kinglsey put in two goals in the first five minutes of the game. Kinglsey was able to head one in coming off a cross from Allison Floyd and then Molly Klein quickly connected with Kinglsey to give Columbia an early 2-0 lead. The Cougars executed a corner kick as Jewel Morelan came up on the backside and punched the ball in, adding to their lead with still 30 minutes to go in the first half. Brooke Schneider led another successful corner kick as Morelan grabbed her second goal of the day. After a long delay due to an Eagle injury, Klein tallied another assist as Kinglsey recorded the hat trick on senior day. The Cougars kept pouring it on as they held a 7-0 lead at the break. Reese Hamilton rounded out the first half scorers as she was assisted by Ellie Hilton.

Hamilton picked up right where she left off, scoring right out of the gates in the second half, this time assisted by Isabella Govero. Shortly following, Greta Haarmann joined the scorer's column to make it 9-0 Columbia. The Eagles continued to struggle offensively as the game went on. The Cougars held the Eagles to just one shot in the match. Columbia notched a perfect record in conference play with the 9-0 win on Senior Day.

Kate Marshall and Rileigh Huffman each spent some time in goal during the shutout.

The Cougars, regular season champions, will host the AMC Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday, November 8th at 6 p.m.
