Columbia, Mo. – The second ranked Columbia College men's soccer team hosted the William Woods University Owls in the American Midwest Conference Tournament Quarterfinals this afternoon. The Cougars defeated the Owls 1-0 to move to 18-0 on the season.
Prior to the start of the game, the American Midwest Conference announced the Academic All-Conference awards for the 2019 season. The Cougars had seven individuals recognized including
Aaron Noel,
Anthony Sobolevsky,
Caden Castello,
Joey Spotanski,
Logan Mangrum,
Nick Filla, and
Ximo Gil.
The Owls had a strong defensive line as Columbia had nine shots, but kept them from getting any in the back of the net to end the first half scoreless for both teams. In the second half,
Casey Bartlett-Scott and
Lesia Thetsane found freshmen
Nathan Durdle, who made his way through the crowd and put one in the back of the net in the bottom right hand corner at the 66
th minute mark for the lone goal of the game.
Ryan Harrisskitt was in goal this afternoon and recorded his 13
th shutout of the season.
The Cougars will be back on the field on Tuesday, November 12 when they host the Williams Baptist (Ark.) University Eagles in the AMC Tournament Semifinals at 6 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
