Columbia, Mo. – Tonight the 9
th ranked Columbia College women's basketball team competed against the Grand View (Iowa) University Vikings in a nonconference matchup. The Cougars topped the Vikings with a final score of 68-64, improving the season to 2-0.
Grand View gained control from the tip, but the Cougars were able to score first with a basket by
Jordan Alford. The basket kicked off a 14-0 run. In second quarter the Vikings stepped up going on an 11-2 scoring run following a key timeout. Columbia held the advantage at the break, 25-20.
Both teams came out of the locker room on fire, with Grand View getting the upper hand, outscoring the Cougars 25-23 in the third quarter. The Vikings went point to point with the home team in the start of the fourth quarter, trading the lead back and forth. It was down to the wire as Columbia held just a three-point lead with six seconds on the clock when
Bria Jones got the steal the sealed up the victory for the Cougars.
With 20 points tonight, senior
Jordan Alford becomes the 15
th Cougar in women's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points.
