Sioux City, Iowa – The ninth ranked Columbia College volleyball team is in Sioux City, Iowa this week to compete in the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championships where they played against Westmont (Calif.) College Warriors to open up pool play. The Cougars fell to the Warriors 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) to move to 27-6 on the season.
It was a tough battle for the Cougars as they did not trail far behind the Warriors in all three sets, but came up short each time. Columbia racked up a total of 38 kills, 12 blocks, and 77 digs in the match with their best hitting percentage being 0.113 in the first set. Despite Columbia's efforts, Westmont completed the sweep to hand the Cougars the loss.
The Cougars were led by
Kiersten Anderson who had 13 kills and 15 digs, while
Luisa Ferreira dished out 33 assists and 14 digs.
Jaqueline Silva picked up a season high 23 digs.
The Cougars will continue play in the 2019 NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championships tomorrow when they play against Xavier University of Louisiana at 4 p.m. in the second day of pool play.
