Columbia, Mo. – Cougar Esports remains at the top of the pack with a 4-0 record on the season. They defeated Southern Illinois University in 2-0 fashion Saturday evening. Only six teams out of the 82 North Conference schools have an undefeated record after week four of the College League of Legends season. With only two weeks left in the regular season, the Cougars only need to secure one more victory to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
In game one of the series, the draft was fairly standard on the side of Columbia. The team drafted a shoving bot lane, roaming mid, scaling jungle, and a counter pick top. As expected, Columbia's bot lane secured the first tower of the game. The Cougars used their team composition and tempo to get positive pressure in all three lanes of the map. Evan "EvanRL" Lawson recorded 93 CS (creep score) at 10 minutes. Support player Zach "BukZacH" Lapham lead his team in kills with six on the champion Karma. He was also pivotal in turning a 2-versus-3
skirmish. The game concluded 21-7 after 23:39 minutes of play.
Game two's draft was anything but conventional and might have caused many onlookers to do a double-take. Columbia's duo bot lane decided to play double support, Karma/Zilean, while Ian "MistyStumpey" Alexander opted to take Vayne with Kleptomancy top lane. It is also worth mentioning that both supports started
Spellthief's Edge, an item that awards gold for harassing an opponent rather than farming creeps. The double-support bot lane proved to be very hard for SIUE to deal with in extended
fights. Alexander played the hyper carry to true form earning the highest KDA on the team, 18, and most gold earned, 14,619. The Nexus fell just short of 23 minutes with CC up 34-9.
