Fort Worth, Texas – The Columbia College softball team was back in action today for the second day of the 2019 Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, Texas. The Cougars were supposed to play three games today, but due to poor weather conditions, the first game against Avila (Mo.) and the third game against Oklahoma Panhandle (Okla.) were canceled. The Cougars dropped their only game against Bethany (Kan.) College by a final score of 11-10. The Cougars are now 2-1 on the season.
The Cougars got off to a great start against Bethany College in the first inning scoring 4 runs to get them the lead 4-1. The Cougars kept their momentum going in the second and were able to score 4 more runs to extend their lead 8-1. Despite trailing by 7, the Swedes were able to come alive in the third with a 3-run homerun. In the fourth, both teams were able to get on the board, each scoring a run to make it a 9-5 game in the Cougars favor. Bethany kept battling through the top of the fifth to come back from behind and tie the game 9-9. Columbia College was able to tally another run in the sixth, but Bethany College answered with two runs in the seventh to give the Cougars their first loss of the season.
Lexi Dickerson (1-0) got the start for the Cougars as she allowed six hits and struck out three batters in three innings of play. Raegan Radke, Madison Ramsey (0-1), and Kaitlyn Nottelmann (1-0) came in to relieve Dickerson and finished out the rest of the game. Natalie Dummit led the way for the Cougars as she went 3-4 with 4 runs scored, Allison Keen went 1-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, and MacKenzie Kasarda went 1-1 with 2 RBI to round out the top performers.
Columbia College is back in action on Friday, February 22nd when they travel to Springfield, Missouri, to compete in the World Series Preview. The Cougars will have a double header on the first day of the invitational and will take on Evangel (Mo.) University at 12 p.m. followed by MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) University at 4 p.m.
