Columbia, Mo – The fourth ranked Columbia College softball team took the field today to take on the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats in a nonconference doubleheader. The Cougars took game one by a commanding 9-1 score and then came from behind in the second game to win in extra innings 6-5 as they swept the Wildcats. Columbia is now 7-7 on the season.

In game one, Columbia was the first one to get on the board with a run in the second. In the bottom of the third the Cougars started rolling with a solo homerun from Natalie Dummitt and then a three run homerun off the bat of Avgustina Arbova to give Columbia a 5-0 lead. Still the Wildcats were scoreless, while the Cougars added another three runs going up 8-0 after four innings. The Wildcats were able to grab one run in the fifth, but that would be all they would get as the Cougars added one more in the sixth to end the game with a final score of 9-1.

Lexi Dickerson was on the mound as she allowed five hits, one earned run, and had four strikeouts in the six innings. Offensively, Libby Marko went 1-3 with one RBI, Olivia Denslow was 2-4 with one run scored, Molly Carter went 1-2 with one run scored, Mackenzie Kasarda was 2-4 with one run scored and two RBIs, Natalie Dummitt was 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, Jacey Meyer was 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI, Allison Keen was 1-2 with one run scored and one RBI, and Avgustina Arbova went 1-2 with one run scored and three RBIs.

In game two, neither team was able to get on the board until the Wildcats racked up three runs in the third to lead 3-0. Each team was able to snag one run in the fifth as the Cougars trailed 4-1. Heading into the bottom of the seventh Columbia was still down by three, but they were not done yet as the Arbova twins caused some double trouble hitting back to back homeruns cutting the deficit to one run. The Cougars were able to squeeze in another run on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4. The game was heading to extra innings after Columbia's late surge. With the international tiebreaker rule in place, each team would start with a runner on second base as extra innings were underway. The Wildcats were able to get their runner home to lead 5-4 with the Cougars coming to the plate in the bottom of the eighth. Columbia wasted no time getting their runner in to tie the game back at 5 each. The Cougars took care of business knocking in another run to end the game victorious 6-5.

Kaitlyn Nottelmann started on the mound as she allowed two hits, two earned runs, and struck out one batter in 2.1 innings of play. Molly Carter came in for Nottelmann and allowed two hits, one earned run, and struck out six batters in 5.2 innings of work.
