Cougar Softball Cruises to Victory in Home Opener

Columbia, Mo – The Columbia College softball team took the field today for their home opener against the Stephens College Stars. In their first AMC doubleheader the Cougars took game one 16-0 and game two 13-0. Columbia is now 9-7 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

In game one, the Cougars got right to work knocking in four runs in the first. Columbia continued to roll in the second adding six more runs, including a two run homerun from Natalie Dummitt and a solo homer off the bat of Allison Keen. The Cougars kept up their pace scoring five runs in the third as they led 15-0 heading into the fourth. Columbia added one more run in the fourth and closed the game in the fifth by a final score of 16-0.

Lexi Dickerson started on the mound as she allowed zero hits and struck out four batters in three innings of work. Reagen Radke came in for Dickerson as she allowed one hit and struck out three batters in two innings. Offensively, Olivia Denslow went 2-3 with three runs scored, Molly Carter was 2-4 with four runs scored and one RBI, Mackenzie Kasarda went 2-3 with three runs scored and five RBIs, Natalie Dummitt was 2-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Jacey Meyer was 2-3 with one run scored and three RBIs, Allison Keen went 2-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, Avgustina Arbova was 1-3 with one RBI, and Libby Marko had two runs scored.

Game two was much like the first. The Cougars took the early 4-0 lead after one. They then went on to add three runs in the second, including a solo homer from Olivia Denslow, while knocking in five more in the third and topping it off with one in the fourth to lead 13-0. Columbia got a quick three outs in the top of the fifth to end the game taking the sweep over the Stars.

Molly Carter was on the mound as she allowed just one hit and struck out three batters in her five innings. Offensively, Britney Edwards was 1-2 with one run scored, Olivia Denslow went 3-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, Molly Carter was 2-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Mackenzie Kasarda was 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Natalie Dummitt was 3-3 with one run scored and three RBIs, Jacey Meyer was 1-3 with one run scored, Allison Keen 3-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, and Libby Marko was 1-3 with one run scored.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, March 19th when they travel to Parkville, Missouri to take on the Park University Pirates in an AMC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
