Gulf Shores, Alabama – The fourth ranked Columbia College softball team was back in action today as they traveled to Gulf Shores, Alabama for the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Cougars dropped both games to 8th ranked University of Mobile 7-3 and University of Rio Grande 1-0. Columbia is now 3-5 on the season.
In the first game against University of Mobile, the Cougars were down 4-0 after two innings. They were struggling to get any offense going as they were down 7-0 after six innings. Columbia was able to get three runs in the top of the seventh, but that was all they could do as they fell 7-3 with only four hits in the game. Lexi Dickerson started on the mound allowing three hits and four earned runs in 1.1 innings. Madison Ramsey came in and allowed nine hits, three earned runs, and struck out three batters in 4.2 innings. Offensively, Libby Marko was 1-3 with one run and two RBIs, Molly Carter was 1-3 with one RBI, and Karolina Arbova was 1-3 with one run scored.
In the second game against University of Rio Grande, the game was scoreless until Rio Grande scored one run in the fourth. That run was the sole run of the game as the Cougars only had two hits, falling 1-0 in game two. Kaitlyn Nottelmann pitched all seven innings allowing one hit and one earned run, while striking out four batters.
The Cougars are back in action tomorrow when they take on Bethel University at 4:30 p.m. and Avila University at 7:00 p.m. in Gulf Shores.
