Columbia, Mo. – It was a weekend of mixed success for the Columbia College Cougars eSports teams. Cougars Varsity trounced Case Western Reserve University in a 3-game sweep and garnering a shot at the North Conference title, but the junior varsity team faced its first loss of the season.
Cougar varsity AD player Evan "EvanRL" Lawson led his team with a 30/3/15 (11.7) score line for the set. Support player Zachary "BukZacH" Lapham finished game two deathless with a final KDA of 0/0/13.
Now, the Cougars must battle an old rival once more. Columbia will face Maryville for the second year in a row for the North Conference title March 30 at 3 p.m. We asked Head Coach
Doruk Hacioglu about his plans for Maryville. He replied, "Last year we beat Maryville in the regular season, but lost to them in the playoff finals. We will make sure that history doesn't repeat itself next week."
The Cougars Junior Varsity team took its first loss against John Hopkins University 0-2. Since the tournament is double-elimination, the loss doesn't eliminate the Cougars from playoff contention. They are scheduled to play the winner of University of Waterloo and University of British Columbia March 30 at 2 p.m. for a final chance to move forward.
The third annual
iBuyPower Midwest Campus Clash and Gaming Expo powered by Columbia College returns April 6. The 2019 MWCC event will host seven elite teams from around the country to battle for a $25,000 prize pool. Previous winner Maryville Esports will be looking to defend their title from 2018.
