Cougars Fall Short Against the Owls

Fulton, Mo. – This evening the Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action as they played the William Woods Owls in their final game of the AMC three-game series. Columbia fell short in extra innings, dropping the game 8-7. The Cougars are now 16-12 on the season and 11-8 in conference play. 
 
The final game of the series went into extra innings as there were four lead changes. The Cougars were first to get on the board, but the Owls were quick to respond with a run of their own to tie the game at one after the first. In the third, Dalton Bealmer hit a two-run homerun, his seventh of the season, making it a 3-1 game. William Woods tallied up four runs in the same inning to take their first lead. The Cougars came back fighting in the fourth to tie the game at five. The Owls added another run in both the fifth and seventh to take the lead back, 7-5. The Cougars tied it once again in the eighth as they battle to get back in the game. After several innings, William Woods scored a run in the tenth to hand the Cougars the loss.
 
Grant Starke (3-1) was the starting pitcher for the Cougars and was relieved by Josiah Imhoff (2-0) in the third as they struck out a combined three batters in 4.2 innings of play. Jordan Copeland (1-0), Conner Darnell (3-0), and Ethan Howser (0-1) also came in to pitch as they struck out a combined two batters in five innings of work. Offensively, the Cougars were led by Dalton Bealmer who had two hits while scoring a run and had three RBI, Blade McKee who had three hits and a run scored, and Nolan Rattai who had a hit and one RBI.
 
The baseball team is back in action Friday, April 5th for an AMC series against the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets. The game will be played at CarShield Field in O'Fallon, Missouri. There will be a $10 admission fee with all proceeds going to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. First pitch is set to start at 6 p.m. Also, Tuesday's away doubleheader against Hannibal LaGrange has been moved to Monday, April 8th.
