Cougar Softball Splits with Lynx

Belleville, Ill. – The Columbia College softball team traveled to Belleville, Illinois to take on the Lindenwood University-Belleville Lynx in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars split with the Lynx winning game one 14-6, then losing 4-2 in game two. Columbia is now 16-8 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

In game one the Lynx took the early 3-0 lead after one inning. Each team grabbed one run in the second, and then the Cougars bats arose in the third racking up six runs to lead 7-4. After a scoreless fourth, the Cougars added two in the fifth, while the Lynx got one. Columbia added to their cushion in the seventh with five runs and held the Lynx to just one to wrap up the game with a 14-6 victory. There were six Cougar homeruns in the game: Molly Carter (2), Mackenzie Kasarda (1), Jacey Meyer (1), Allison Keen (1), and Avgustina Arbova (1).

Lexi Dickerson was on the mound for the duration as she allowed nine hits, six earned runs, and struck out five batters. Offensively, Olivia Denslow went 4-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, Molly Carter was 3-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs, Mackenzie Kasarda was 1-4 with one run scored and one RBI, Jacey Meyer was 3-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, Allison Keen was 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Avgustina Arbova was 1-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, and Karolina Arbova was 1-3 with one run scored.

In game two the Lynx again took the early lead, this time just 1-0, however the Cougars quickly tied it up in the second. The Lynx rallied in three runs in the fourth to lead 4-1. Each side was scoreless over the fifth and sixth innings. In the top of the seventh the Cougars were able to cut the lead to two runs, but that was as close as they would get as they dropped 4-2.

Molly Carter started the game as she allowed eight hits, four earned runs, and struck out three batters in 3.2 innings of play. Kaitlyn Nottelmann came in to relieve Carter, as she did not allow any hits or runs, and struck out two batters in her 2.1 innings of work. Offensively, Nottelmann was 1-1 with one run scored, Mackenzie Kasarda was 1-4 with one RBI, Jacey Meyer was 4-4 with one run scored, and Natalie Dummitt and Avgustina Arbova each added a hit, while Arbova also had one RBI.

The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday, April 3rd when they travel to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in an AMC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
