Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team took the field today as they hosted the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars won game one 3-1 and won 6-5 in game two in extra innings. Columbia is now 25-9 on the season and 16-2 in conference play.
This game served as senior day for the Cougars and before the game, four seniors were honored for their hard work and dedication to the program. Seniors
Libby Marko,
Natalie Dummitt,
Olivia Denslow, and
Molly Carter were all recognized.
In game one, the Cougars had a great start in the second as
Mackenzie Kasarda and
Natalie Dummitt scored.
Karolina Arbova added a run in the fifth to extend the Cougars lead 3-0. The Trojans were able to get on the board in the sixth as they scored a run. Columbia kept Hannibal from adding any more runs to win game one 3-1.
Lexi Dickerson got the win in game one as she was the sole pitcher. She allowed just one earned run and struck out four batters in seven innings of work. Offensively, the Cougars were led by
Jacey Meyer who had a hit and two RBI,
Mackenzie Kasarda who had a hit and scored a run, and
Natalie Dummitt who had a hit and a run scored.
In game two, Hannibal got the head start as they scored five runs in the first inning. The Cougars came back fighting in the bottom of the first as they scored two runs to cut the Trojans lead 5-2. Columbia's bats started rolling in the second as they added two runs, including a solo homerun by
Allison Keen. The Cougars kept their momentum going as they tallied up another run in the third to tie the game at 5. Seven innings was not enough as the game went into extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, the Cougars had bases loaded with only one out.

Kaitlyn Nottelman got the start on the mound and was relieved by
Molly Carter. Carter did not allow any earned runs and struck out five batters in nine innings of play. Offensively, the Cougars were led
Mackenzie Kasarda who had two hits while scoring a run and had three RBI,
Allison Keen who had a hit while scoring a run and one RBI, and
Jacey Meyer who had a hit and one RBI to round out the top performers.
The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday, April 16
th when they host the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics in an AMC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
