Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to take on the Missouri Baptist University Spartans in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars swept the Spartans 8-5 and 4-2. Columbia is now 18-8 on the season and 9-1 in conference play.
In game one the Cougars went down 4-0 in the second inning, but with a quick response tied the game at four in the top of the third. After a scoreless fourth, Columbia racked up another four runs, including a two-run homerun from Molly Carter in the fifth to lead 8-4. The Spartans were able to get one run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Cougars grabbed the final outs to take game one 8-5.
Lexi Dickerson was on the mound as she allowed 10 hits, four earned runs, and struck out two batters in the seven innings. Offensively, Libby Marko and Mackenzie Kasarda were each 1-4 with one run scored and one RBI, Molly Carter was 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Natalie Dummitt went 1-4 with one run scored and two RBIs, Jacey Meyer was 1-3 with one RBI, Avgustina Arbova was 1-3 with one run scored, and Karolina Arbova was 1-3 with two runs scored.
In game two neither team could get on the board until the Spartans put up a sole run in the third to lead 1-0. The Cougars kept working and were able cross the plate three times to go ahead 3-1 in the fifth. Columbia added another run in the seventh and held the Spartans to just one more run in the bottom of the inning to hang on to win 4-2.
Kaitlyn Nottelmann was on the mound as she allowed five hits, two earned runs, and struck out six batters in the game. Offensively, Mackenzie Kasarda went 1-2 with four RBIs, Jacey Meyer was 1-2, Avgustina Arbova was 1-3, Karolina Arbova was 1-2 with one run scored, and Samantha Myers, Molly Carter, and Olivia Denslow each added a run.
The Cougars are back in action on Friday, April 5th when they host the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an AMC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
