Columbia, Mo. – The Columbia College softball team hit the diamond today as they hosted the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an AMC doubleheader. The Cougars snatched two shutouts over the Eagles, winning 6-0 and 9-0. Columbia is now 20-8 on the season and 11-1 in conference play.
In game one the Cougars struck first in the bottom of the second as Allison Keen doubled to drive in the first two runs of the game. The next two innings were scoreless for each side. Then in the bottom of the fifth Columbia started ripping the ball and knocked in four runs to lead 6-0. The Cougar defense stayed strong throughout holding the Eagles scoreless and securing the game 6-0.
Lexi Dickerson was on the mound for the shutout as she allowed five hits and struck out four batters in the seven innings. Offensively, Libby Marko went 1-4 with one run scored, Molly Carter was 1-2 with one run scored, Natalie Dummitt was 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Jacey Meyer was 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, Allison Keen was 1-2 with two RBIs, and Avgustina Arbova was 2-3 with one RBI.
The Cougars had the momentum going into game two as they started things off with a solo homer from Olivia Denslow and a bomb that hit off the scoreboard from Mackenzie Kasarda to take the early 2-0 lead after the first. They added two more runs in the second and continued to circle the bases in the third, crossing the plate five times to lead 9-0, while the Eagles still had a goose egg on the board. The Cougars went ahead to shutout the Eagles to end the game in five innings.
Molly Carter was on the mound during the second shutout of the day as she allowed just one hit and struck out five batters. Offensively, Olivia Denslow was 2-3 with one run scored and two RBIs, Molly Carter was 1-3 with one run scored, Mackenzie Kasarda was 1-1 with two runs scored and one RBI, Natalie Dummitt, Jacey Meyer, and Allison Keen each had a run scored and one RBI, and Avgustina Arbova went 1-2 with one run scored and one RBI, while Karolina Arbova added two RBIs.
The Cougars are back in action on tomorrow, April 6th when they host the Freed-Hardeman University Lions in an AMC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
