Hannibal, Mo. – This afternoon, the Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action as they played a doubleheader against the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans to finish the AMC three game series. The Cougars took both games against the Trojans as they won the first game 12-0 and won game two 10-0. The Cougars are now 20-12 on the season and 15-8 in conference play.
The Cougars got off to a great start in the first game as they took the lead in the first inning scoring three runs. Columbia kept their momentum going as they added four runs in the fifth, including a three-run homerun by
Kenny Piper. The Cougars followed that in the sixth as they tallied up five runs to make it a 12-0 game. Hannibal made one last attempt to get back in the game, but the Cougars were able to get the last three outs for the win.
Reid Browning (1-0) was the sole pitcher for the Cougars as he pitched all seven innings. Browning did not allow any earned runs and struck out eight batters. Offensively, the Cougars were led by
Kenny Piper who went three for four while scoring two runs and had six RBI,
Chase Urhahn who went three for four while scoring two runs and had two RBI, and
Justin Randle who had three hits while scoring a run and had two RBI.
The Cougars started game two scoring three runs.
Chase Urhahn started the third inning with a solo homerun followed by three more runs in the inning to extend Columbia's lead 7-0. The Cougars kept their momentum going as they scored two runs in the fourth inning. Columbia tallied up one more run in the seventh to win the game 10-0.
Andrew Baker was the starting pitcher for the Cougars as he did not allow any earned runs and struck out four batters in 3.0 innings of work.
Lane Threlkeld (1-0) relieved Baker in the fourth as he did not allow any earned runs and struck out four batters.
Blake Thompson also came in to pitch for Columbia in the final inning as he did not allow any earned runs and struck out a batter. Offensively, the Cougars were led by
Joshua Miller as he had a hit and had three RBI,
Dalton Bealmer who went four for four while scoring three runs and had two RBI, and
Chase Urhahn who had two hits while scoring two runs and had one RBI.
The baseball team is back in action tomorrow as they travel to Canton, Missouri to play against the Culver Stockton College Wildcats. First pitch is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
