Canton, Mo. – This evening, the Columbia College men's baseball team was back in action as they played against the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats. The Cougars dropped the game against the Wildcats 7-2. The Cougars are now 20-13 on the season.
The Wildcats were first to get on the board today as they scored two runs in the second inning. The Cougars scored their first run in the fifth and added another in the sixth to tie the game at two. Culver-Stockton was quick to respond in the sixth as they scored a run in the same inning to take the lead back. The Wildcats build some momentum as they scored two in the seventh and another two in the eighth to extend their lead 7-2. The Cougars attempted to get back in the game, but the Wildcats were able to get the last three outs in the ninth to hand the Cougars the loss.
Mark Haire got the start on the mound for the Cougars and was relieved by
Tanner Beatty,
Roy Moore, and
Derek Sallee as they allowed a combined two earned runs while striking out three batters in 5.2 innings of play.
Josiah Imhoff,
Conner Darnell, and
Jacob Hollingsworth also came in to pitch as they allowed a combined four earned runs and struck out a batter in 2.1 innings of play. Offensively, the Cougars were led by
Nolan Rattai who had a hit and an RBI and
Ethan Howser who had a hit and a run scored.
The baseball team is back in action Friday, April 12th as they travel to Branson, Missouri to play a doubleheader. The Cougars will play the first game against the Bellevue University Bruins at 1 p.m. and the second game against College of the Ozarks Bobcats will follow.
